The intervention of LAG ELOZ – Between the mountain of Lousã and Zêzere is identified as a rural and a mountain area, coinciding with the geographic space dominated by the Central Massif of Lousã, with the North border of the Mondego River and bordered to the South by the choppy of Zêzere River. It comprises the municipalities of Castanheira de Pera, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Lousã, Miranda do Corvo, Pampilhosa da Serra, Pedrogão Grande and Vila Nova de Poiares.
he existence of quality and diverse natural and landscape resources provides a natural landscape of distinction that is completed by the built heritage of historical, cultural and architectural value, with emphasis on typical mountain architecture.
The schist emerges as stimulating resource of cultural statement and reference element in the symbolic construction of the brand image “Serras de Xisto” (Schist Mountains).
On the one hand, the craft is a strong presence as complement activity and, on the other hand, wild spaces contain an environmental richness and biodiversity that contribute to the multi-functionality of the territory translating into leisure activities, recreation and alternative production (hunting, fishing, honey, herbs, mushrooms).
Within this context, there are already food products of recognized quality, from which the honey of Lousã can be highlighted, a local product with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), whose composition is predominantly nectar of native heather.
